Join us on a 3-Day Desert Trip from Marrakech to Fes—traveling through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains, ancient UNESCO-listed kasbahs, dramatic gorges, and the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert. This carefully crafted desert adventure is the perfect choice for travelers with limited time who still want to experience the very best of Morocco’s diverse landscapes without missing a beat.
Why choose this tour? Because it combines iconic highlights with authentic local experiences—from riding camels across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset to sleeping under a blanket of stars in a traditional Berber camp, all while your expert local guide handles every detail.
With comfortable air-conditioned transport, carefully selected accommodations, and the warm hospitality of our Marrakech-based team, this is the ultimate way to connect two imperial cities while immersing yourself in the magic of the Sahara.
Your adventure begins at 7:00 AM with pickup from your Marrakech hotel. We cross the High Atlas via the legendary Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), stopping for photos and mountain views. Our highlight is Ait Ben Haddou, a breathtaking UNESCO kasbah and famous film location. You’ll have 1.5 hours to explore its maze-like alleys with a local guide.
After lunch (not included), we pass through Ouarzazate, the Valley of the Roses, and the Skoura palm oasis before arriving in the dramatic Dades Valley. Check into your hotel, enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner, and relax in the serene canyon atmosphere.
After breakfast, we journey along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where we hike between 300-meter-high limestone cliffs. We continue through Tinghir’s palm oasis toward Merzouga, gateway to the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes.
Here, pack a small overnight bag and embark on a sunset camel trek across the golden Sahara. Arrive at your traditional Berber camp, enjoy mint tea, watch the sunset from the highest dunes, and savor a Moroccan dinner under the stars. The night ends with lively Berber drumming and campfire music before you sleep beneath the vast, star-filled sky.
Wake early for a spectacular Sahara sunrise—a breathtaking display of gold and amber across the dunes. After breakfast, ride your camel back to Merzouga. We then journey toward Fes, crossing the stunning Ziz Valley with its vast palm oases. Pass through Erfoud (famous for fossils) and Errachidia before reaching Midelt for lunch (not included).
Continue through the lush cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where you’ll spot playful Barbary macaques. Pass through the alpine-style town of Ifrane (“Little Switzerland”) before arriving in Fes around 7:00 PM, where we drop you at your hotel or riad.
The tour departs at approximately 7:00 AM from your hotel or riad in Marrakech on Day 1 and ends around 7:00 PM in Fes on Day 3.
This tour involves long hours of driving, particularly on Day 1 (approximately 7 hours) and Day 3. The total distance from Marrakech to Merzouga is about 550 kilometers, crossing mountains and winding roads. We recommend this tour for travelers who are comfortable with extended time in the vehicle.
Bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a camera, sunscreen, a warm jacket (desert nights can be cold, especially from November to February), weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, and cash for lunches and tips.
You’ll spend one night in a private hotel room with air conditioning and en-suite bathroom in the Dades Valley, and one night in a private tent at a Berber desert camp in Erg Chebbi. Luxury tent options include private in-tent bathrooms, while standard tents have shared facilities nearby.
