Step into a 3-Day Shared Desert Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, taking you through the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, historic UNESCO-listed kasbahs, and the vast, golden dunes of the Sahara. Designed for travelers who want to experience the authentic magic of Morocco without the stress of planning, this journey perfectly balances adventure and relaxation.
Why choose this tour? Because we handle everything. From navigating the winding mountain passes to organizing your camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, our expert local team ensures a seamless experience. You’ll enjoy comfortable, air-conditioned transport, hand-picked accommodations, and the warm, legendary hospitality that makes our desert tours truly special.
Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech. We ascend through the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, stopping for photos of the valley vistas. Our first major stop is the ancient ksar of Aït Benhaddou; you’ll have plenty of time to explore the winding, historic streets of this legendary site. After a traditional lunch, we continue through the Skoura oasis and into the dramatic landscape of the Dades Valley. Check into your hotel for a relaxing dinner surrounded by breathtaking canyon views.
After breakfast, we set off toward the Todra Gorge, where you can walk along the river beneath massive, 300-meter-high cliffs. We continue our drive through the desert gateway towns of Tinjdad and Erfoud, arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon. Here, you’ll trade your vehicle for a camel, embarking on a trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As the sun sets, you’ll arrive at your traditional Berber camp to enjoy a delicious dinner, music around the campfire, and an incredible night under a canopy of stars.
Wake up early to witness a spectacular Sahara sunrise, where the dunes glow with deep gold and amber hues. After breakfast at the camp, we begin the journey back to Marrakech. We traverse the beautiful Draa Valley—the longest river valley in Morocco—and stop in the city of Ouarzazate, famous for its film studios and the historic Kasbah Taourirt. After a relaxing lunch, we navigate the final stretch across the High Atlas Mountains, arriving back in Marrakech in the early evening to conclude your desert adventure.
The tour departs at approximately 7:00 AM from your hotel or riad in Marrakech on Day 1 and ends around 7:00 PM in Fes on Day 3.
The travel time varies by day, ranging from approximately 5 to 10 hours of driving, with frequent stops for photos, meals, and exploration.
We recommend packing a small overnight bag for the desert camp, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and a light jacket for the cooler desert nights.
You will stay in comfortable, air-conditioned hotels/riads on the first night and an authentic, comfortable traditional Berber tent on the second night.
