Embark on our 6-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech . This tour is crafted for travelers who want to bridge the gap between the historic scholarly city of Fes and the vibrant, bustling heart of Marrakech. By slowing down the pace, we unlock the hidden treasures of Morocco: the ancient nomadic traditions of the Sahara, the dramatic geological wonders of the High Atlas, and the intricate, hidden beauty of Marrakech’s palaces and souks.
Why choose this tour? Because it is the ultimate comprehensive adventure. You gain the luxury of a two-night immersion in the heart of the Sahara, dedicated time to explore the architectural wonders of the southern gorges, and a full day to uncover the secrets of the “Red City.” With private, air-conditioned transport, hand-picked boutique riads, and luxury desert camps, this is the most immersive way to travel across Morocco.
We start our six-day Morocco desert journey with an early morning pickup from your Fes lodging. We travel south toward the Middle Atlas Mountains, making our first stop in Ifrane, which is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine architecture.
After that, we visit the well-known Azrou Cedar Forest, where you may see Barbary macaques in the wild. We pass through the breathtaking Ziz Valley, which is well-known for its enormous palm plantations and striking pre-Saharan gorges, after lunch in Midelt. The golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga replace the stony scenery by late afternoon.
Discovering the wonders of the Sahara is the focus of today. We start by taking a 4×4 tour of the dunes and visiting a local nomadic family to discover their distinct way of life and customs. After that, we travel to Khamlia Village, which is inhabited by the descendants of former slaves from sub-Saharan Africa. There, you will see a genuine Gnawa music performance.
Exchange your car for a camel in the late afternoon. Take a memorable Sahara camel ride through Erg Chebbi’s undulating dunes in time to see a stunning desert sunset. Arrive at your opulent desert oasis camp for an evening of stargazing beneath a clear night sky, live drum music around the campfire, and traditional Berber cuisine.
Get up early to have a delicious breakfast at the camp after witnessing a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. We depart from the desert and travel to Rissani, the historical cultural center of the Alaouite Dynasty, which is renowned for its lively, genuine souk.
We keep going in the direction of Tinghir and the breathtaking Todra Gorge. Stroll down the slender canyon bottom, where 300 meters above the riverbed are limestone cliffs. Following lunch, we take a drive into the Dades Valley, taking in the sweeping bends of the mountain roads and the distinctive “monkey fingers” of rock.
Following breakfast, we proceed down the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Every spring, local cooperatives gather organic roses in Kelaat M’gouna, the center of the Valley of the Roses, to produce high-end rosewater and cosmetics.
After that, we travel into the expansive Skoura Oasis, exploring the exquisitely preserved Kasbah Amridil from the 17th century and meandering through old palm groves. We wrap up the day in Ouarzazate, the “Hollywood of Africa,” where we will take a visit of Atlas Film Studios, the setting for well-known films like The Mummy, Kingdom of Heaven, and Gladiator.
We start the day at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is an old, walled clay city (Ksour). One of Morocco’s most well-known sites, this breathtaking area has been used as the setting for blockbuster movies like Game of Thrones.
We ascend the magnificent High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass after leaving Ait Benhaddou, reaching a height of 2,260 meters. Savor expansive views of the mountains and make time to explore nearby Argan oil cooperatives run by Berber women. By late afternoon, we reach the busy imperial city of Marrakech after descending into the plains.
Take a guided historical tour of Marrakech on your last day. Discover the famous Koutoubia Mosque, the ancient Saadian Tombs, and the architectural wonders of Bahia Palace. Explore the colorful souks’ meandering passageways before wrapping up your tour at the well-known Jemaa el-Fnaa square, which is home to open-air food vendors, musicians, and storytellers.
We will set up a seamless transfer to the Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) or your next location, depending on your travel schedule, to wrap up your amazing 6-day Moroccan adventure.
It prevents “traveler fatigue.” A single night often feels rushed; a second night allows you to truly relax, enjoy the 4×4 excursions, and experience the Sahara’s silence without the pressure of a long drive the next morning.
